Claudia with the Creators

With Manon Sun at “Papoter”

In recent years, I have longed to find a sense of belongings. I wanted to know what peers with similar backgrounds to mine care about, what they express, and what they aspire to. When Mr. Fang introduced me to Manon Sun, he mentioned that we share similar backgrounds and are the same age, suggesting that we might find common ground. This introduction sparked my interest in Manon and marked the beginning of a wonderful connection.

With Christopher Le Brun at Phases of the Moon

Growing up in China, I never experienced the peak of abstract art in the United States and Europe, so I am not very familiar with its background. Initially, I thought that to appreciate abstract art, one needed to understand its historical context to grasp what it was trying to convey. However, when I saw Christopher Le Brun's work, it gave me a different experience. It didn't need to be "understood"; instead, it directly touched my senses. The piece imparted a sense of calmness and tranquility, as if I were immersed in a gentle ripple of memories. This feeling made that moment of viewing unforgettable.

With Zhang Lian at Two Sides of One Coin: Reflections and Transformations

Zhang Lian's works have enriched my imagination of a style that is both elegant and modern in Chinese aesthetics. I have always wondered what postmodern Chinese style would look like. In my mind, Chinese aesthetics often seem like products of specific historical periods, laden with strong historical characteristics. Seeing a certain period's Chinese style immediately brings to mind a particular historical era or dynasty, making it feel ancient. However, Zhang Lian's works have given me a new perspective on this style. They are modern, avant-garde, and slightly surreal, fulfilling another dimension of my fantasy about Chinese aesthetics.
